Classroom opportunities offered by UNIVO and teaching facilities expected by students with disabilities

Abstract
The verification of the conditions that favor as well as those that limit the quality of life of Persons with
Disabilities, PWDs as a vulnerable sector of the population, is based on the recognition that society has
the duty to contribute to the full and effective inclusion of this sector. , especially when they are part of
university communities and are important actors within the higher education system, aiming to guarantee
equal conditions with respect to the rest of the people. Therefore, it was considered important to evaluate
the degree of compliance of the Universidad de Oriente, UNIVO regarding academic requirements and
mobility conditions for students with disabilities. Specifically, identify the expected and found facilities
for the mobility of students with disabilities, verify the expected and found facilities regarding digital and
didactic resources for students with disabilities, evaluate the attitude and work of teachers in relation to the
care of students with disabilities and examine UNIVO’s challenges in establishing inclusive educational
environments. The study carried out was phenomenological in nature with a qualitative approach, delving
into the analysis of the topic through structured interviews with students with disabilities enrolled in careers
that the university offers.
