Dynamics of irregular migration in El Salvador and impacts on migrantsʼ fundamental rights
Main Article Content
Abstract
Irregular migration in El Salvador, driven by social, economic, and environmental dynamics,
exposes migrants to severe impacts on their fundamental rights, such as security, freedom, and
dignity. This phenomenon, motivated by the pursuit of better living conditions, safety, or family
reunification, places vulnerable populations including children, pregnant women, and the elderly at
physical and psychological risk. Studying these dynamics from a fundamental rights perspective
is crucial to assess the scope of violations and propose solutions that promote safe and orderly
migration. Descriptive and explanatory methods, grounded in prior studies, enable analysis of
the conditions triggering displacement and the legal barriers migrants face upon leaving their
country, losing protections tied to citizenship. This approach seeks not only to understand migratory
dynamics but also to foster policies that mitigate global chaos and alleviate the suffering of affected
families. Raising societal awareness about the risks of irregular migration is essential to protect
the most exposed groups and ensure fundamental rights are upheld, promoting alternatives that
prioritize migrants’ dignity and safety.
